Meet the Cows!
While all cows are special at Pole Creek Ranch, some are just a little more special than others. We don't eat or process these "breeders" for food. They make their living producing offspring for our "seedstock" operation. Here’s a few of our favorites, and why Riley likes them so much.
Hannah Montana
We bought this lady out of Montana, hence the nickname. Hannah is one of our best young females, she has tons of muscle in her top (back) where all the valuable meat cuts are which makes her valuable as a momma; she’s also super friendly and always showing off for the camera!
Z357
Z357 came to Pole Creek Ranch pretty late in life, so we just know her by her alphanumeric. We like her because all of her calves have earned high-dollar bids from big name ranches or stayed in the herd as super star young females. She’s also a dark “cherry red” which is a very rare and sought after trait in the breed.
Rebel
Cow herds are like a group project; one person does all the work and everyone else just follows along! Rebel is the boss-cow that leads the way to the next grazing pasture, brings the herd to the barn in a snowstorm, and takes the calves to shade on a hot summer day. She's always keeping the other cows in line!
9Mile Loveable 8211
Love-A-Bull indeed. This guy is Red Angus royalty. We bought him from 9 Mile Ranch because his pre-sale ultrasound data put him in the top 1% of the industry for marbling and rib eye area (the size of the most valuable steak in the whole cow). He will pass on these sought after industry-leading traits to his calves, and our steaks!
